Neal P. Gillen
Chair

Neal P. Gillen, a commissioner since 2013, is a retired attorney and author of 16 books and numerous short stories. A competitive swimmer, ranked in the nation’s top 10 of U.S. Masters Swimmers, he has consistently medaled in basketball and swimming going back to the 1990s. David Schardt
Vice Chair

David Schardt played basketball and baseball in senior leagues for 20 years, officiated basketball, baseball, football and softball games for high school and recreation leagues, medaled in the Maryland Senior Olympics javelin throw, and serves on the new Montgomery County Sports Advisory Committee. Retired as a staff scientist at a consumer watchdog group, he’s been a  Montgomery County resident for 40 years. 

James Pearce
Secretary and Treasurer

James Pearce has competed in local, regional and national track and field meets for 40 years and has served as a USATF track official and referee for the Big Ten track Championships. A retired lawyer, businessman, and teacher, Pearce has been a MSO Commissioner for 10 years and resides in Columbia.

Myron Segal

Myron Segal has enjoyed the training and competition of marathons, triathlons and bike racing all his adult life and has participated in the past 11 Senior Olympics. Now retired after 35 years in the federal government and 19 years teaching high school math and science, Segal lives in Silver Spring.

Pamela Gulley

Pamela was born and raised in Liverpool, England and settled in Prince George’s county with her family in 1978. She enjoys traveling, staying fit and encouraging others to do the same. She enjoys cycling and pickleball, but it was swimming that led her to compete in the Senior Olympics.

Carmen Campbell

Carmen Campbell has competed in softball, basketball, tennis, and bowling and has long worked to foster participation in those sports. A retired statistician, she’s President of the MSO Board, Commissioner of the Montgomery County Women’s Masters Softball League, and a member of the National Senior Softball Hall of Fame.

Lou Ann Berryhill

A retired teacher in Rockville, Lou Ann Berryhill’s hobbies are air gun shooting, sewing, and cheering the successes of her grandchildren in their activities.  She enjoys shooting which offers her a chance to make new friends. A Senior Olympian for 7 years, Berryhill assists with air gun and trap shoots. 

Jack Berryhill

Jack Berryhill, a retired engineer in Montgomery County, has always had an interest in shooting.  He became involved with Senior Olympics in another state through their air gun program.  After moving to Maryland, he and his wife Lou Ann began a program for air gun competitions which has grown to include trap for shotgunners.

Daryl Stone

Daryl Stone is a Professor and Chairperson in the Department of Technology and Security at Bowie State University. A dedicated educator, family man, and avid golfer, he brings passion and commitment to both his professional and personal pursuits. Whether in the classroom or on the field, Daryl strives to inspire and uplift others, demonstrating a genuine dedication to improving the quality of life for all.

Glo Hong

Glo Hong, a Maryland Senior Olympics Life Member, has participated in MSO events for more than 23 years. A competitor in more than 15 different state events and more than ten National Senior Games, she medaled in both state and national competition and is a member of the Maryland Senior Olympics Hall of Fame. Hong lives in Clarksburg.

Dave Robinson

Dave Robinson is a lifelong competitive athlete.  At Claymont High School, he played varsity football, basketball, and track.  He began competitive swimming at Springfield College under Coach “Red” Silvia where he became a College All American and Co-captain of the varsity swimming team.  Since college, Dave has competed in downhill skiing, triathlons, road races, and swimming.  In 2005 he returned to competitive swimming in the USMS program and continues to compete with the Germantown Masters Team.  He has more than 100 Top Ten rankings, with four of them as #1s.  Dave has raced in nine Maryland Senior Olympic swimming meets and holds 10 meet records.  He is also active singing, dancing and acting with local community theater groups, five of which have won the Ruby Griffith Award for Outstanding Productions. Dave is a retired NIH laboratory scientist where he conducted basic research on the primate brain.

Fran Bass

Francis Bass (Fran) was born and raised in Delaware where he spent every summer swimming for the neighborhood swim team and playing Little League Baseball. He moved to Maryland in the mid 1980’S and most recently worked as a Technology Manager at University of Maryland until his retirement in the spring of 2018. Since retirement he has participated in numerous MSO events including Swimming, Cornhole, Pickleball, Shuffleboard and Disc Golf. Fran also serves as Co-Coordinator of the MSO Cornhole Tournament with his brother Dennis. He is an active member of US Master Swimming and USA Triathlon and currently resides in Laurel.

Mary Wilkins

Mary Wilkins has been competing and coaching in track and field most of her life. She’s a member of the Fairmont Heights High School Hall of Fame for her performance in the 100 and 300 hurdles and the 4×200 and 4×400 relays. She holds Maryland Senior Olympics records in the hammer throw and weight throw. Mary coached Eleanor Roosevelt High School track for 10 years and currently coaches field events for Glenarden Track Club. She retired from the U.S. Department of Agriculture as a Grants Management Specialist in 2018.

John Noble

John A. Noble has been a competitive sprint triathlete for the past 20 years, a member of the 2025 USA Triathlon Foundation Ambassador Team, and finished first in his age group in the 2023 National Senior Games Sprint Triathlon. John retired as a researcher and administrator at the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, part of the National Institutes of Health, and has been a MSO comissioner since 2023.
